What does it take to become a club member and what does a membership include?
In order to become an UOVOTC member, an individual must complete two classes with Upper Ohio Valley Obedience Training Club. When the completion of the second class has been verified, the individual will be asked to complete an application for membership and then pay either $40 for a single membership, or $45 for a family.
Benefits of membership include discounted classes, meetings, and fun dog-centered gatherings and activities. The Club’s annual Christmas party, which includes the presentations of plaques recognizing titles earned by club members throughout the year, is always a favorite event. For more information, visit the Become a Member Page.

Do you accept aggressive dogs?
Our club is not equipped to handle Aggressive dogs, but can help to connect you with local trainers who offer one-on-one training to help you with your aggressive dog.

What do I wear to training class?
Please wear comfortable clothes and shoes. If classes are held outside, they will be in the grass with potential for mud.

Should I feed my dog dinner before class?
Do not feed your dog 4-5 hours before class.  Your dog should receive enough treats during class to make up for a late dinner.

What types of treats should I bring?
Use soft treats like diced hotdogs, diced string cheese, or commercial soft treats.  Hard treats could be a choking hazard during training.  Treats should be very small to avoid overfeeding.  Your dog will be delighted to get each small reward.

What type of leash should I have?
We recommend a 6 foot leather or Biothane leash. Nylon leashes are ok, but not preferred. Flexi Leashes/ Retractable Leashes are unacceptable.

What type of collar should I have?
We recommend any type of flat buckle collar or martingale collar. Sometimes we recommend other forms of training collars depending on the needs of the dog. If we recommend those training tools, we will help fit your dog and help with the initial use of the tool.

For the safety of yourself and others, the use of harnesses during class is generally not recommended.

How do I carry my treats?
Treats must be readily available during training.  You can buy a small bag that clips to your pocket or belt, or buy a canvas apron at any hardware store. Sometimes, even reaching into your pocket may take too much time in a training session so be sure treats are very handy.
