Puppy Manners
Prerequisite: NONE
Puppy Manners is an introduction to dog training and socialization for dogs under 1 year. We will introduce the dog and handler to the skills needed for puppy training. We will start with simple cues while luring the dog. We will begin with Sit, Down, Come, simple handling, socialization and enrichment. This course is a Prerequisite for AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy.
S.T.A.R. Puppy
Prerequisite: Puppy Manners
This course is geared towards puppies (under 1 year of age) and will culminate with the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Test, which is included in the price of the course. The AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy stands for Socialization, Training, Activity, and Responsibility. We will focus on several of the components, such as: Loose Leash Walking with and without distractions, Sit, Down, Come, Supervised Separation, Polite Petting, and Handler Grooming. Testing will be held the final week of class. The owners will need to have an AKC number if they wish to submit the title, which you can apply for when you submit your title. Beginning Manners
Prerequisite: NONE
This course combines the skills in Puppy Manners and S.T.A.R. Puppy but is geared to older dogs that have NOT been to other classes. We will focus on teaching simple cues such as Sit, Down, Come, Loose leash walking, and others to help the dog and handler team get ready for our Manners Course.
Manners
Prerequisite: S.T.A.R. Puppy or Beginning Manners
This course is geared toward teaching the dog and handler how to behave in a home environment. The skills we will focus on align with the AKC Title Virtual Home Manners (which is optional). We will be working on Sit, Down, Come from a distance, Wait with food, Place, Loose Leash Walking and Waiting at a door. We can provide you with a contact if you wish to submit a video for the Title.
Advanced Manners
Prerequisite: Manners
This Course will be a continuation of our Manners curriculum but focus more on reinforcing and fine tuning what the dogs have learned.
AKC Canine Good Citizen
Prerequisite: Advanced Manners or Instructor Approval
This course will focus on the testing requirements for the AKC Canine Good Citizen Test with the test being Administered on the final class. The skills we will focus on will be: Accepting a Stranger, Sit politely for petting, Sit for exam, Loose Leash Walking and walking through a crowd, Sit, Down, Stay, Come, Reaction to another dog (Handler Hand Shake), Noise/food distractions, Supervised Separation. Specialty Classes:
Tricks
Prerequisite: CGC or Advanced Manners or Instructor Approval
This course will focus on helping handlers and dogs navigate the fun world of teaching their dogs tricks. On the last day of Class, the dogs will be able to test for their AKC or Do More With your Dog Trick dog Titles. Cost for the testing is included in the fee of the class. Scent Work
Prerequisite: Advanced Manners or CGC
This course will be an introduction to odor (Birch). The focus will be teaching the dogs how to search and teaching the handler how to read their dog.
Competition Obedience
Prerequisite: Instructor Approval
This course will be an introduction to COMPETITION OBEDIENCE. This will focus on the skills necessary to compete in Obedience Trials.
AKC Rally Novice
Prerequisite: Instructor Approval
This course will be an introduction to the AKC NOVICE Rally signs, how to perform them, and how to navigate a NOVICE course.
