Class Registration Fees:

$75 per six-week session for non-UOVOTC members
$65 per four-week session for non-UOVOTC members
$30 per six-week session for UOVOTC members

Puppy Manners   
Prerequisite: None
Puppy Manners is an introduction to dog training and socialization for dogs under 1 year of age. You and your dog will be introduced to the skills needed for puppy training. We will start with simple cues while luring the dog with treats. You will begin with Sit, Down, Come, simple handling, socialization, and enrichment. This course is a prerequisite for AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy.

Puppies learn about different surfaces.

S.T.A.R. (Socialization, Training, Activity, Responsibility) Puppy 
Prerequisite: Puppy Manners
This course is geared toward puppies (under 1 year of age) and will culminate with the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Test which is included in the price of the course. It will focus on several components of the test, such as: loose leash walking with and without distractions, Sit, Down, Come, supervised separation, polite petting, and handler grooming.  Testing will be held during the final class session.  Dog owners will need to obtain an AKC number if they wish to submit the title. Beginning Manners 
Prerequisite: None
This course combines the skills taught in Puppy Manners and S.T.A.R. Puppy, but is geared toward older dogs who are new to obedience classes. It will focus on teaching simple cues such as Sit, Down, Come, loose leash walking, and others to help the dog and handler team get ready for the Manners Course.

Practicing Sits and Downs

Manners
Prerequisite: S.T.A.R. Puppy or Beginning Manners
This course teaches the dog and handler how to behave in a home environment. Skills taught include Sit, Down, Come from a distance, Wait with food, Place, loose leash walking, and Wait at a door.  The skills taught in this class align with the AKC title Virtual Home Manners. Testing for the title at the end of the course is optional. Your instructor can provide you with a contact if you wish to submit a video for the title.

Advanced Manners
Prerequisite: Manners
Advanced Manners focuses on reinforcing and fine tuning skills the dogs have learned in the Manners course.

AKC Canine Good Citizen
Prerequisite: Advanced Manners or Instructor Approval
This course will focus on the testing requirements for the AKC Canine Good Citizen Test with the test being administered during the final class. The skills targeted in this course are: accepting a stranger, Sit politely for petting, Sit for exam, loose leash walking and walking through a crowd, Sit, Down, Stay, Come, reaction to another dog (Handler Handshake), noise/food distractions, supervised separation. Dog owners will need to obtain an AKC number if they wish to submit the title. Please follow this link to learn how to register your dog for an AKC number.

Specialty Classes:

Tricks
Prerequisite: Canine Good Citizen, Advanced Manners, or Instructor Approval
This course teaches handlers and dogs to navigate the fun world of canine tricks. On the last day of class, dogs will be able to test for their AKC Tricks or Do More With Your Dog Trick titles.  Cost for the testing is included in the class fee. Please follow this link to learn how to register your dog for an AKC number.

Scent Work
Prerequisite: Advanced Manners or Canine Good Citizen
This course is an introduction to odor (Birch level). The focus will be teaching the dogs to search and teaching the handler how to read their dog.  

Competition Obedience
Prerequisite: Instructor Approval
This course will be an introduction to competition obedience, focusing on the skills necessary to compete in obedience trials.

AKC Rally Novice
Prerequisite: Instructor Approval
This course will be an introduction to AKC Novice Rally signs, how to perform them, and how to navigate a Novice Rally course.
